The Ghost Farm

This is an abandoned farm whose property is now part of Hubbard Perkins Conservation Area. This is a public park with hiking trails located in Phillipstown, NY off Trout Brook Rd. The owners left stuff around the property and inside the building. I climbed into the attic. Nothing was there, but if you climb up there, watch the stairs, several rungs are broken. I did see a really weird looking plant (see picture) Anybody know what the hell it is?

There is another abandoned village/farm in Hubbard-Perkins in the valley between East Mountain and Round Hill along School Mountain Road. I can find nothing on this place. Does anyone have an idea of what this place was? I know there were mines and farms in the area, but this place looks line it was significantly developed before it became a ghost area.

  2. Yup, it’s milkweed alright. There was plenty of it around in Western NY where I grew up.
    Great site by the way!

the strange plant is milkweed. the pods, when broken open, contain sticky, silk-looking strands rather like dandelion “wishes”.
