excellent post about the ruins of Cliffdale Manor in the NJ Palisades

I’ve done a fair amount of research on the NJ Palisades and I’ve visted all the ruins but I never knew much about the largest of the ruins in the park. This website not only runs down the history but has some awesome old pictures that show what it was like when it was in use. Well worth checking out.

My name is Steve Vallillo, when I was about 12, about 22 of us broke into the Cave Entrance on 70 th st. & Durham Ave. They went as far as Kennedy Blvd. where they were caved in. The cops came and chased us out & they they sealed the caves again. My dad & uncle worked in them in the 1930’s , when they were kids also. They were Mushrom Caves then as. Cover for the Mob , dad said . The entrance is behind the factory on the corner of 70 Th and Durham. I can see the steel red doors on Google, last week. Dec. 2014
